The result times are included in the performance schedule for the State Championships

Are contest performances open to the public?

Yes! Tickets can be purchased at the door

Can musicians play with more than one band?

Yes! There is currently (30/6/2026) no restriction on the number of bands a musician can play with.

Can we request approval for a march or own-choice work?

Applications for approval should be submitted to the WABA Music Board by the published deadline, with the required score and work details. Submission can be sent to: contest@waba.org.au

How can my band add or update its details on the WA Bands page?

Email the updated band name, rehearsal location, contact details, website and social-media links to secretary@waba.org.au

Can WABA help me find a player, conductor or musical director?

WABA can circulate requests from affiliated bands through its email and social-media networks. Send the position details, closing date, contact information and any promotional image to secretary@waba.org.au

Are there community bands suitable for beginners or returning musicians?

Yes. Playing levels and entry requirements vary between bands. Some accept beginners or returning players, while others may require a particular level of experience. Contact bands directly to find the best fit.

Is WABA a band that I can join?

No. WABA is an association representing community bands across Western Australia. To join a band, visit our WA Bands page and contact a band in your area directly.

Who can affiliate with WABA?

Affiliation is available to the following types of bands registered in Western Australia: - Concert Bands - Brass Bands - School Bands

Does WABA have instruments for hire?

WABA no longer have instruments available to hire, however many of our bands do. Please contact bands directly to see about instrument availability

How can I find a band to join?

Check out the list of bands affiliated with WABA and you can contact them directly to see about joining

How do I get WABA to promote my concert / event?

WABA will promote events and requests from affiliated bands to all of our members using email and Facebook. Feel free to email your requests to: secretary@waba.org.au

When are the WA state championships?

The WA State Band Championships are held annually on the June long weekend
